FEDEXCELLENT PRESENTATION TO MEMBERS OF THE FPA

By David Michaels

Michael L. Ducker, President of the International Division of FedEx welcomed members of the FPA at a briefing and cocktail reception at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. His presentation was informative and enjoyable. Some of the important features he discussed dealt with Seasonal Statistics and Environmental Management.

For the tenth consecutive year, FEDEX expects to break company volume records when an unprecedented 11.3 million packages move through the FedEx Express and FedEx Ground global networks on Dec. 17, 2007. On an average day, more than 7 million packages move through their system.

They will handle the highest package volume on Monday, Dec. 10th with 7 million packages moving through the network, followed by 5 million on Dec. 17th.
Their international markets including, the UK, China, India, and Canada will also have their busiest day on Dec. 17th.

Getting into the “spirit of the season”, FedEx and the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation, recently kicked off their annual Trees for Troops program in Columbus, Ohio with the pickup of 300 trees to be delivered to activated service members and their families stationed overseas. In the coming weeks, tree growers, retailers and FedEx Corporation will be donating and delivering 20,000 trees to more than 35 bases in the United States and overseas.

The popular program has grown rapidly since its inception in 2005 when 4300 trees were delivered. Last year FedEx donated all of the transportation and the logistical services to collect and deliver 12,000 trees.

In relation to Environmental Management, FedEx considers this one of their most important corporate priorities and is committed to implementing and helping develop new cost-effective green technologies that provide a real alternative for business and consumers in today’s market. This demonstrates continued loyalty to aid in the further development of hybrid-electric commercial vehicles across the globe and reflects the growing commercial viability of this technology.

In 2004, FedEx Express introduced the FedEx OptiFleet E700, an environmentally superior delivery truck into its ground fleet. They now have 95 of these vehicles in service worldwide, and can boast that they have the largest fleet of hybrid-electric delivery vehicles of any transportation company within the United States.

A lively Q and A followed Mr. Ducker’s presentation. Both Suzanne Adams and Alan Capper thanked the staff at FedEx, particularly Denise Lauer, for arranging this event. Thanks as well to the staff at Ketchum for their invaluable assistance.

A delightful cocktail reception followed the program in the beautiful Pent House ballroom of the Mandarin Oriental. Members were able to meet with our FedEx hosts and enjoy the magnificent view as well.
